Paralympic bronze for Scottish Borders swimmer Stephen Clegg as he breaks British record

Paralympian Stephen Clegg has taken his second bronze medal of the Tokyo tournament.

The swimmer - from Newcastleton in the Scottish Borders - came third in the S12 100m freestyle final in Tokyo in the early hours of this morning.

He also broke his second British record of the Games with his time of 53.43.


Further Covid-19 vaccine call for people in Scottish Borders and Dumfries and Galloway

People across the south of Scotland have been given another reminder to come forward for their Covid-19 vaccination.

This call comes as Dumfries and Galloway recorded one of the highest rates of the virus in Europe.

In the week ending the 22nd August 2021n - the most recently published data - a total of 913 new cases was recorded, more than doubling from 452 the week before. Numbers of close contacts rose to 2186, and as with cases, more than double the 1059 recorded the previous week.


The Sun pays damages to cricketer Ben Stokes over breach of family privacy

The Sun newspaper has paid damages to England cricketer Ben Stokes and his mother after it published a front-page story reporting on a family tragedy.

The 30-year-old criticised the newspaper for publishing "extremely painful, sensitive and personal details" about his family in September 2019, leading to him and his mother Deborah Stokes launching legal action.
